MIT International Science and Technology Initiatives (MISTI), MIT’s flagship international education program, supports MIT’s educational mission by creating hands-on, international learning experiences for MIT students that are related to their course of study. Students are prepared to speak the language of international collaboration through immersion in the language, history and politics of their host country, intensive retreats, and MISTI trainings. Founded in 1994, MISTI has placed more than 7,000 MIT undergrads and graduate students with internship, teaching and research opportunities in 19+ countries around the world. The MISTI Global Seed Funds (GSF) grant program promotes and supports early-stage collaborations between MIT researchers and their counterparts around the globe. Many of the joint projects lead to additional grant awards and the development of valuable long-term relationships between international researchers and MIT faculty and students. MISTI has awarded over $11.7M to MIT researchers and their collaborators since 2008.
